Gardenville and all of West Seneca lost a great man this week. Salvatore (Sammy) Rizzo was known as one of the last original barbers in Gardenville. He carried on the barber tradition from his father, Jim, and joined the other Gardenville barbers including Eddie and Gene Burger, Mike and Bobby Pinnavaia.
A lifelong member of Union Fire Company, Sammy was committed to the town and to Gardenville. He was a very active member and for many years won awards for the top ten fire men. Dennis Bengert, a friend and fellow member of the Fire Company said, ”whenever Sammy was assigned to a job or a post he would carry it out to the nines. He clearly was one of the very best trustees the fire company ever had.” During his illness many people stopped by the Fire Company to ask how Sam was doing.
Dennis spoke for many when he said, “Sammy will be dearly missed by his fire company members and the friends he had throughout West Seneca.”
Services for Sam Rizzo will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018
at Buszka Funeral Home 2085 Union Road, West Seneca.
Visitation from 1:00 to 4:00 PM
Funeral service at 4:00 PM in the chapel.
Retire to the fire hall afterward.
